Kajukenbo focuses on helping students develop practical, reality based fighting skills. The study of the art fosters self-awareness, self-confidence, and helps build personal power. In this respect, acquiring and practicing self defense skills become an integral part of a student’s experience.
Seattle Kajukenbo does not offer separate self defense classes. The school is, however, involved in the Fight the Fear Campaign, a community oriented violence prevention initiative. Sifu Melinda Johnson is the campaign’s Executive Director. The mission of Fight the Fear Campaign is to provide free self defense training and violence prevention education, for women in underserved and at-risk populations.
